Survivors of Substance Abuse
Survivors of Substance Abuse
Ongoing Group meets the fourth Thursday monthly
Service Description
Upcoming Dates: Aug 22, Sept 26. Oct 24, Nov 28 | 6pm PT/ 7pm MST/ 8 pm CT/ 9 pm ET This group is for adults individuals who have experienced a death loss where substance abuse use, abuse or overdose were part of the life/death narrative. This group will display an array of emotions as they remember the tough times when the addicted person made them feel like they chose their addiction over them. Maybe, if you are like Kim Ryan, you grew up in an addictive home, and maybe married an addict. You soon realized at some point, that you couldn't live this life anymore and realized you are getting mentally ill with them. Many times, we lie for them, make excuses for them, pay their bills, give them a place to live, a free meal, a shower, etc. only to realize we are enabling them. Co-dependecy may have rooted inside of your mind, and slowly crept its way into your heart. The heart and mind are in what seems like constant battle. You love this person, but you hate who they become under the influence of their choice. Alcohol and drugs are a common escape people use to avoid the pain that life has thrown at them. In this support group, you will get answers to the "why" you have been searching for for many years. Grief can take us down some dark paths, and once we get isolated, depression, hopelessness, anxiety, and the feelings of not being good enough can take their toll. This is a very personal topic of support for Kim, and she will relate with you, make you dig deep, and think about what got them into addiction. She has certainly buried her fair share of family and friends who lost this battle. There is hope, and it will require each of us who attend, to provide empathy, understanding, and encouragement. Lives have been destroyed, and those of us who attend are desperately seeking answers, and above all, healing. It's been quite a roller coaster of emotions, bottled up, and they sometimes blow once they have a safe place to release. This is your safe place. Join us today ... These ongoing virtual support groups will provide you with much understanding, where you may have not always felt understood. Your world has been turned upside-down, and the puzzle pieces are all over the place. Let us help you find those missing pieces, and help you create a new vision for living with a purpose.
